Home Renovations Yeronga

Project

Helen and Paul, Yeronga

Large Post War House, extensive renovation and landscaping

Doctors Helen and Paul have three teenage children and decided it was time to update their much loved home to  accommodate their need for more space. We had done work on the house 17 years prior and we were delighted they chose to work with us again. We recommended that they employ the services of Architect Derek Trebilcock.
“We don’t want to move, but our house is not working.”

This was the problem Helen and Paul had. They love Yeronga and the street they live in, but needed to create a home that had better spaces for their growing family.

Budget: $500K

Duration: 12 months

Year: 2015/16

Although a delightful project to work on, we had several challenges.

  1. We needed to fit numerous structural elements to create the new spaces designed by the architect.
  2. We had limited access to the rear of the property where most of the work was taking place.
  3. The design required  highly detailed joinery for the doors and large windows.
  4. The design changes to the existing building presented many challenges. “It had to look good.”
  5. The pool area was not connected to the house and living areas.
We worked closely with the engineer to overcome the structural challenges within the existing home. We engaged the services of RWD Joinery to produce the detailed joinery units, and they turned out beautifully.

Weekly meetings with our client and the architect gave us the flexibility and impetus to produce an evolving design, while ensuring the budget remained realistic and on track.

The original landscaper’s designs came in over budget, so we developed an alternative and we created a cost effective solution that didn’t comprise the design.

To over come the lack of connection between the pool area and the house, we created an entertaining terrace under the deck .

We created a house that the client still can’t believe she lives in and owns. Stepping through the front door you enter a light filled void with views to the majestic back garden and pool. Family and friends comment that this is the “party house”.

A home was created that allows the teenage and adult children room of their own while also having a large family house. Multiply entertaining areas have been created from the formal to the laid back billiard room.

The investment Helen and Paul have made has not only created the lifestyle home they desired but an improvement in the market value of their home.

He is always pleasant and friendly to deal with, and helped us to co-ordinate a large number of trades people and services. We love our renovated home, and are happy to recommend Richards workmanship.”  Helen and Paul, Yeronga.
